Welcome to the Halley's Camps February Newsletter! We have been having a busy winter and can hardly believe how the time is flying. For the most part, we have been spoiled by the relatively great weather that we have been having - for the time of year, that is! Actually, January saw some colder temperatures as usual. In February, with the sun higher in the sky the spring like weather is just around the corner.

Everyone has been busy keeping things running smoothly during the winter months. George has put in an "ice road" to Kettle Falls to continue with his project of renovating cabin 7 - the last of the large cabins to be converted into 3 bedroom 3 bathroom cabins. We expect cabin 7 will be completed before the 2007 fishing season is in full swing.

Below are a few winter wildlife and scenery photos courtesy of Tom Thomson of Kenora, depicting just how beautiful the winters in Northwestern Ontario are.

The Whiskey Jack, also known as the Gray Jay or the Canada Jay.

The playful and curious Otter lives on a diet of fish and shellfish, and can often be seen frolicking in the water and on the ice.

Whitetail Deer in the snow. The winter coat of the Whitetail consists of heavy guard hairs and a thick undercoat that provides excellent insulation against the cold.

A misty winter morning - hoar frost clings to the trees creating a visual delight. Hoar frost occurs when water vapour touches a very cold surface and freezes onto it instantly.
